“We understand the importance of the 8th fire prayer and the need for all the Indigenous nations to gather in front of the fire to strengthen our ancestral union. As custodians of the sacred territories of our ancestors, we understand that it is in this space where the spirits of our ancestors live who lovingly guide us in the defense of our mother earth. From the heart of the world, the Amazon, we the Kichwa women from the Union Base community, as our kichwa name “Awana” states, we are the weavers.

We are a group of women from the Kichwa Nationality of Union Base, which aims our efforts to protect the rights of indigenous of mother earth to exist and the right of Indigenous women to defend our mother. In the same way, we protect each other’s sexual and reproductive rights. We work to eradicate violence against women by focusing our efforts and attention to community empowerment and cultural revitalization highlighting our culinary and gastronomic ancestry. As traditional knowledge keepers we aim to keep protecting our food and health sovereignty by collecting cultural significant seeds from the jungle to transform them into a botanical collection of sacred objects. As women we sustain the fire with our songs, with our service. We know all foods come from our mother earth. We are the protectors we are the guardians, we are the living jungle.

We deeply appreciate the spiritual, moral and financial support that you offer us to make our participation possible. In this time of uncertainty, your support gives us hope and strength to sustain our daily struggle in defense of our territories and our sovereignty”.
