SOUTH BALTIMORE COMMUNITY LAND TRUST, SUNRISE MOVEMENT-BALTIMORE, TOWSON UNIVERSITY AND UMBC PRESENT
FIGHTING FOR JUSTICE IN SOUTH BALTIMORE
We will host a conversation about the urgency of zero waste and a move away from incineration. The panel will be a vibrant conversation about the kinds of environmental justice organizing that has occurred in Baltimore over the past decade, how questions regarding environmental justice have transitioned into claiming rights to land, land trusts, and alternative forms of development. Youth from Free Your Voice (a grassroots organization part of South Baltimore Land Trust) will discuss their plan for implementing city-wide zero waste and the need for critical solidarity from all Baltimore city residents.
This event is inclusive, open to those who can’t afford it. For the others, a suggested sliding scale donations of $10-100 are being requested in lieu of a flat ticket price, to make the film more accessible. The collected funds will suport THE SOUTH BALTIMORE COMMUNITY LAND TRUST.
The South Baltimore Community Land Trust is a 501 c3 devoted to building permanently affordable housing in South Baltimore through the participatory envisioning, design, and construction of community land trusts. Community land trusts incubate new housing and jobs insulated from market forces. The initiative is intended to increase collective community wealth through the development of clean-energy jobs and affordable housing to meet human needs in the most marginalized areas of Baltimore. Curtis Bay is the site of the construction of 8 new passive design and affordable housing units for low-income families.
The donations collected will also support the film impact campaign “No More Sacrificed Communities” and be used to provide small honorariums to our panelists and filmmakers for their time and expertise. Please give generously according to your financial situation
